From the first click to the return visit: purposeful digitalisation to drive hospitality forward
On 20 October, we took part in SmartCamping 2026, an event organised by Camping Profesional at Cambrils Park Resort, joining a round-table discussion alongside Xavier Pallicer from GuestPro; Guillermo Ristol from Paraty Tech; and Eloi Rigau from Interpals Eco Resort.
Under the title “From the first click to the return visit: technology to attract and retain the new generation of campers”, we shared different perspectives on how technology can help campsites attract new customers, enhance their experience during their stay and build relationships that last over time.
Representing Uplaan, our Commercial Director, Pol Castarlenas, focused on one fundamental point: “digitalisation is not about introducing more tools, but about simplifying operations to deliver a better experience for campers without losing the essence of hospitality.”

Fewer repetitive tasks, more time to look after campers
One of the key points raised by Pol was the financial impact of the time spent on reception tasks. Answering calls, dealing with recurring enquiries and handling manual procedures are necessary activities, but they consume resources that could otherwise be used to improve face-to-face guest service.
As Pol explained, when taking an estimated cost of €0.25 per minute of staff time into account, the time spent on these tasks represents a significant financial cost, particularly during periods of peak occupancy.
Automating some of these processes through digital tools helps reduce repetitive tasks, streamline
communication and free up the team from administrative work. The aim is not to replace human interaction, but to enable staff to spend more time on what really makes a difference: looking after guests, addressing their needs and providing a welcoming, personal experience.
A connected experience from start to finish
The relationship with campers begins long before they arrive at the campsite. From their first enquiries to planning activities and services, every interaction influences how they perceive the campsite.
That is why centralising information and making communication channels easily accessible is essential to delivering a consistent experience throughout the entire customer journey.
Through solutions such as Uplaan’s app and web app, campsites can make information, activities and services available on guests’ mobile phones, allowing them to find what they need and manage different aspects of their stay more independently.
This accessibility also benefits the team: it reduces enquiries that require direct intervention, makes it easier to share information and helps prevent communication from becoming scattered across different channels.
Digitalisation to improve profitability
Technology also creates opportunities to increase the campsite’s revenue. Making it easier to book activities, raising awareness of available services or allowing guests to arrange rentals from their mobile phones helps campers discover and enjoy a wider range of offerings during their stay.
When these services are easy to find and book, campsites can encourage cross-selling, increase average spend per customer and make better use of the commercial opportunities that arise during a stay.
The key is to integrate these possibilities naturally into the guest experience, offering relevant services at the right time without adding unnecessary complexity to day-to-day operations.
Technology should enhance hospitality, not replace it
The reflections shared during the round-table discussion point to a common challenge for the sector: finding the right balance between technological innovation and the human touch that characterises campsites.
Digitalising for the sake of it adds no value. The real difference lies in identifying which processes can be simplified, which tasks can be automated and how technology can be used to improve both internal operations and the customer experience.
At Uplaan, this is the philosophy we work by: providing intuitive, practical tools that connect a campsite’s internal management with the services campers enjoy. Digitalisation that helps teams work more effectively, makes services easier to access and creates new opportunities to improve profitability.

Thank you to Camping Profesional for organising this event, and to Xavier, Guillermo and Eloi for sharing their experiences and perspectives on the future of the sector.
